Who Will Kamala Harris Choose As Her VP? Top Contenders For The US Elections 2024
The Republicans are currently leading the Democrats, not just in approval ratings but also in finalizing their presidential and vice-presidential nominees.
A significant development occurred when Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, as reported by India Today.

Kamala Harris: The 'Not So New' Face Of Democrats
Although Harris will need to secure the nomination, her choice of vice-presidential running mate remains a topic of interest. The decision by Biden to withdraw follows three weeks of intense media and administrative debates concerning his future after his poor performance in the first presidential debate on June 27.
Harris, 59, who became the first-ever Indian-American elected as Vice President of the US in 2021, now stands as the likely Democratic presidential nominee.
Biden's endorsement has significantly boosted Harris's candidacy, positioning her as the frontrunner ahead of other potential contenders, including prominent Cabinet members and Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom of California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, as reported by India Today.
Harris, serving as the first female, first Black, and first South Asian vice president since 2021, will inherit the Biden campaign's $240 million in funds, as their campaign account was registered with the Federal Election Commission under both their names due to her previous role as his running mate.
With Biden's withdrawal and endorsement of Kamala Harris, she is set to run against Donald Trump in the 2024 election, scheduled for November 5, just 106 days away.
Earlier, at the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump officially became the Republican Presidential nominee and selected JD Vance as his running mate, as per media reports.
This development raises the question: Who will be Kamala Harris's running mate?
Nine potential candidates have been identified for Kamala Harris's vice-presidential running mate:
1. Governor Roy Cooper - The Governor of North Carolina, aged 67, who could provide geographic diversity and appeal in a battleground state. Known for his strong approval ratings and bipartisan support, Cooper has campaigned with Harris since Biden's weak debate performance, warning against the return of "Donald Trump's America."
2. Governor Josh Shapiro - The Governor of Pennsylvania, aged 51, is a popular centrist who could help secure a critical swing state. Known for his work as attorney general and bipartisan legislative achievements, Shapiro has been a vocal supporter of Israel, potentially attracting moderate voters.
3. Governor Andy Beshear- The Governor of Kentucky, aged 46, has won twice in a state that heavily supported Trump. Praised for his management of the Covid-19 pandemic and crisis handling, Beshear could appeal to swing voters.
4. Governor JB Pritzker - The Governor of Illinois, aged 59, who has established a national profile and is a vocal critic of Trump. Pritzker has been advocating for increased federal resources to handle immigration issues in Illinois.
5. Senator Mark Kelly - A Senator from Arizona and former astronaut, Kelly is known for his high profile and bipartisan cooperation. His advocacy for gun control and appeal in a swing state make him a notable contender.
6. Governor Gretchen Whitmer - The Governor of Michigan, aged 52, has national recognition and a strong track record on infrastructure and health care. Whitmer's appeal in a key swing state could bolster Democratic chances.
7. Secretary Pete Buttigieg - The Secretary of Transportation and former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, aged 42, is a media-savvy advocate for the Biden-Harris administration. As a young, openly LGBTQ candidate, he brings representation and appeal to centrist voters.
8. Governor Gavin Newsom - The Governor of California, aged 56, is a prominent progressive voice within the party. He has been a strong advocate for national Democratic issues and notably survived a recall election last year.
9. Governor Wes Moore - The Governor of Maryland, aged 45, became the state's first Black governor in 2023. With an impressive background as a New York Times bestselling author, Rhodes Scholar, combat veteran, and former CEO of an anti-poverty organization, Moore enhances Harris's appeal.
With Republicans having selected Donald Trump and JD Vance as their candidates, it remains to be seen whether the Democrats will agree to Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate and who her vice-presidential running mate will be.
