Who Is Ryan Wesley Routh? Suspect Held For Assassination Attempt On Donald Trump

A man armed with an AK-47-style weapon was apprehended after allegedly targeting former President Donald Trump at his golf. Trump was on the course when the incident occurred. A Secret Service agent noticed a rifle protruding from a fence and fired four to six shots, causing the suspect to flee.

The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was later located thanks to a witness who captured a photo of his vehicle and license plate. This information led law enforcement officials to track the car driving north on I-95 in Martin County, just north of Palm Beach.

Ryan Wesley Routh is a 58-year-old White man with a long criminal history in North Carolina. He attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University but moved to Hawaii around 2018. His LinkedIn profile describes him as "mechanically minded" and interested in "ideas and invention and creative projects with artistic flair."

Routh's criminal record dates back to 1997, including charges for driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, hit-and-run, and possessing stolen goods. He received probation for these offenses according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

Political Views and Social Media Activity

Routh has been vocal about his political views on social media, consistently supporting Democratic candidates since 2019. On April 22, he criticised Trump on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose." He urged President Biden to focus on keeping "America democratic and free," accusing Trump of wanting to "make Americans slaves against master."

Following an assassination attempt on Trump during a Pennsylvania rally, Routh encouraged Biden to visit victims in the hospital and attend the funeral of a firefighter who died. He posted on July 16, "SHOW THE WORLD WHAT REAL LEADERS DO." In June 2020, he tweeted at Trump expressing disappointment with Trump's presidency despite having supported him in 2016.

The FBI has indicated that this appears to be an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. This marks the second such attempt in two months, according to CNN reports.

Authorities found two backpacks and a Go-Pro camera near the perimeter where Routh fled. The FBI or local authorities have not disclosed further details about Routh's motives or plans.

This incident highlights ongoing security concerns surrounding high-profile figures like former President Trump. Law enforcement agencies continue their investigation into Routh's actions and background.

The swift response by the Secret Service agent prevented potential harm during Trump's golf game. The capture of Routh underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting public figures from threats.
