Ashwin Ramaswami, the inaugural Gen-Z Indian-American candidate vying for a seat in the US state legislature, has garnered an endorsement from US Senator Jon Ossoff for Georgia's state Senate position.

Ramaswami, running as a Democrat in District 48, seeks to unseat Republican incumbent Shawn Still, a former aide to ex-President Donald Trump, who faced indictment related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, as per India Today.

Senator Ossoff praised Ramaswami as a dedicated advocate for democracy and his constituents in Georgia. Highlighting Ramaswami's background in election security, Ossoff contrasted him with his opponent, characterizing Still as a proponent of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement linked to efforts undermining electoral integrity, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Expressing gratitude for Ossoff's support, Ramaswami emphasized his commitment to combating far-right influences in state politics, prioritizing issues such as healthcare, housing, and election security if elected. Having resigned from his role in election security at CISA to pursue office, Ramaswami has successfully raised over USD 280,000 through grassroots fundraising efforts, surpassing his opponent.

A recent graduate of Georgetown University, Ramaswami aims to make history as Georgia's youngest elected representative and the first Indian-American to hold such a position, marking a significant milestone for Generation Z and the Indian-American community in the state, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Born to immigrants from Tamil Nadu in 1990, Ramaswami represents Generation Z, encompassing individuals born between 1997 and 2012. Should he secure victory, Ramaswami would become Georgia's first Gen Z State Senator and the sole state legislator in Georgia holding both a computer science and law degree.
