Who Is Aroh Barjatya, Indian Scientist Leading NASA Mission To Study Solar Eclipse's Impact On Ionosphere?
A crucial mission led by Aroh Barjatya, an Indian-origin scientist, was launched by NASA during a total solar eclipse on April 8, aiming to study disruptions in the Earth's upper atmosphere caused by the eclipse.
This mission, known as the Atmospheric Perturbations around the Eclipse Path (APEP), had previously been conducted during an annular solar eclipse in October 2023, during which instruments aboard rockets observed abrupt and dramatic changes in the ionosphere.

Who Is Aroh Barjatya?
The significance of the APEP mission and Barjatya's pivotal role in coordinating it were emphasized by NASA. Before Monday's launch, researchers were eager to relaunch the rockets during the total solar eclipse to observe potential changes in the perturbations.
During the solar eclipse on Monday, three Black Brant IX sounding rockets were fired from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia as part of the APEP mission, investigating disruptions in the Earth's upper atmosphere during a solar eclipse, as reported by Wion.
Barjatya is currently employed as an engineering and physics professor at Florida's esteemed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, overseeing the university's Space and Atmospheric Instrumentation Lab. After the successful launch, Barjatya expressed gratitude to colleagues, students, and the team at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and Wallops Sounding Rocket Program Office.
A post on LinkedIn by Barjatya expressed appreciation for fellow researchers at collaborating institutions and capable students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, as well as everyone at NASA Wallops Sounding Rocket Program Office and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for accomplishing six complex rocket missions in six months, as reported by Wion.
Regarding Aroh Barjatya's education and family background:
Aroh attended schools and colleges in India before pursuing higher studies in the United States. His father, Ashok Kumar Barjatya, is a renowned chemical engineer, while his mother, Rajeshwari, is a homemaker.
After completing schooling in Mumbai's Patalganga, Aroh travelled to Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pilani, and Solapur. He graduated from the esteemed Walchand Institute of Technology in Solapur with a degree in electronics engineering, as reported by Hindustan Times.
In 2001, Aroh moved to the United States to pursue a master's degree in electrical engineering at Utah State University, followed by a doctorate in spacecraft instrumentation from the same university, as per media reports.
