When US beauty queen faked cancer to raise funds

Washington, Aug 12: A beauty queen in US has been jailed for faking cancer to raise thousands of dollars as funds, media reported on Wednesday.

Model identified as Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates, Miss Pennsylvania US International made everyone to believe that she had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in March 2013.

Since then she has been participating in fundraiser programmes to pay for her faked cancer, reported CNN.The most recent event was held in April this year and raised $14,000.

According to a police investigation Gates had ever been under a doctor's care for cancer.

Weaver-Gates is being held in the Centre County Correctional Facility after she was charged with felony counts of theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

She is due in court next week.
