"Yesterday, CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting IT systems globally. We are aware of this issue and are working closely with Crowd and across the industry to provide customers technical guidance and support to safely bring their systems back online," Nadella stated.

The outage has significantly disrupted operations worldwide, affecting airlines, banks, and various businesses. Microsoft acknowledged the issue, linking it to a third-party software update. A spokesperson for Microsoft mentioned, "We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming." This disruption has left many businesses in a state of uncertainty.

Impact on Airlines and Banks

Airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa experienced major disruptions in their online check-in and boarding processes. They had to revert to manual operations due to the outage. Passengers were advised accordingly as these airlines struggled with the sudden shift in their systems.

Despite the widespread impact, some major institutions remained unaffected. The State Bank of India (SBI) confirmed that its systems were not impacted by the outage. Similarly, stock exchanges NSE and BSE reported no issues stemming from the global disruption of Microsoft systems.

Government Response

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the IT ministry is in contact with Microsoft regarding the situation. He confirmed that the NIC network was not affected by this outage. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vaishnaw mentioned that the cause of the outage had been identified and updates were being released to resolve it.

The minister added that CERT-In has issued an advisory on this critical issue caused by CrowdStrike's update. The advisory aims to provide technical guidance for mitigating the impact of this outage on affected systems.
