“We Just Hit Somebody”: Pilot Audio Captured After Plane Hits Man On Denver Runway

A disturbing air traffic control recording has revealed the tense moments after a Frontier Airlines flight struck a person on an active runway at Denver International Airport late at night. The incident, which took place around 11:19 pm, led to chaos onboard the aircraft and a major emergency response at the airport.

Authorities said the unidentified individual had allegedly breached airport security by climbing over a fence and entering the runway area moments before the collision occurred. The aircraft involved was Frontier Flight 4345.

Pilots Report Engine Fire After Impact

According to the air traffic control audio, the pilots immediately informed the tower that the aircraft had stopped on the runway after hitting a person. The crew also reported an engine fire following the impact.

"Tower, Frontier 4345, we're stopping on the runway. Uh, we just hit somebody... we have an engine fire," the pilot said.

Airport personnel responding to the incident later confirmed that human remains were visible across the runway area.

"I do have limbs on the runway. I believe the aircraft struck an individual. There appear to be human remains on the runway," an airport staff member said in the audio exchange.

Flight tracking platform FlightAware reported that the aircraft was travelling at nearly 149 mph at the time of the collision. Reports further stated that the victim was partially pulled into one of the aircraft's engines.

Passengers Describe Panic Inside Aircraft

Passengers onboard the flight said confusion quickly turned into panic after a loud explosion-like sound echoed through the aircraft cabin. Travellers reported seeing smoke and flames as fear spread among those onboard.

Passenger John Anthens, who was travelling with his sons to attend a Pokemon Go tournament, told The New York Post that many passengers initially had no idea what had happened.

Anthens, 56, described the sound as similar to a "bomb" exploding. He also said thick smoke rapidly spread inside the cabin while flames were visible coming from the engine.

"My dad said when the engine fire went up, he was able to see the legs of a human spinning around in the engine ... which sounds like emotional trauma to me," Anthens' son said.

Children were reportedly crying as several passengers screamed during the terrifying moments after the impact.

Investigation Underway Into Security Breach

Airport officials said the individual had entered a restricted operational area after allegedly jumping over a perimeter fence before running onto the active runway.

The incident has raised serious questions about airport security and runway safety procedures at one of the busiest airports in the United States.

Frontier Airlines later issued a statement confirming that an investigation is underway in coordination with airport officials and safety authorities.

"We are investigating this incident and gathering more information in coordination with the airport and other safety authorities. We are deeply saddened by this event," the airline said.

Authorities Yet To Identify Victim

Officials have not yet publicly identified the person killed in the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation into how the individual managed to access the runway and the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision.

Emergency crews remained at the scene for several hours following the crash as operations on the affected runway were suspended temporarily.
