Watch | Why This Woman Gave Up Her Home To Sleep At Work And Shower In A Gym

A woman's unusual decision to give up traditional housing has gone viral on social media. Destinee, as she is known, shared on TikTok that she had grown tired of paying $2,000 in rent and other bills. Instead of struggling with these expenses, she made a bold choice - to live without a home and save money.

The video, which has now surfaced on Instagram, shows Destinee explaining how she first attempted to live in her car, as many others do when looking for a cheaper alternative. However, her car soon became unlivable after it was damaged. "I slept in that car for so many nights without air and heat," she said.

Faced with this situation, Destinee had an open conversation with her employer about her living conditions. She admitted to sleeping at her workplace, and to her surprise, she was neither fired nor asked to leave.

In the clip, she gave a tour of the small space she now calls home at work. It includes a recliner, a lamp, a washbasin, and a mini fridge. She also revealed that she showers and gets ready at a gym. In another part of the video, she showed herself preparing for the day in the gym's washroom after taking a shower there. Additionally, she has rented a storage unit for $75 a month to keep her belongings.

"When I tell people I am homeless, they think I dig through bins for food, but that's not true. I chose to be homeless because I was tired of paying bills. Now, I live rent-free and eat ribs," she explained. She also mentioned that she uses a meal-prep service to have healthy meals at work.

The video has attracted millions of views and sparked a range of reactions from social media users. Some questioned her choice, while others saw it as a creative way to maintain a comfortable lifestyle.

One person commented, "I'm not mad at her, but I am mad that rent is so high that people have to come up with creative ways just to have affordable shelter. This country is so stressful."

Another user wrote, "My peace and stability would be worth the $1,980, but that's just me."

A third person remarked, "Hair done, nails done, AirPods, lighting, and a phone to record content! Homeless looks different in 2025."

Meanwhile, another user praised her approach, saying, "I love what you've done and how you made this work! Survival skills on point."
