Watch: Roller Coaster Stopped Mid-Ride In England, Riders Suspended In Air At 72 Feet High For 40 min

A heart-stopping incident unfolded at Adventure Island, a popular seaside resort in Southend, England, when a rollercoaster called 'The Rage' abruptly came to a halt, leaving a group of thrill-seekers stranded midway up the 72ft-high ride. The rollercoaster, known for its unique lift tower, left its passengers suspended in mid-air, creating a frightening predicament.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the riders had to be harnessed and carefully rescued from their elevated position at the amusement park. One mother, who was at the park with her six-year-old daughter, described the situation, noting that the rollercoaster got stuck during its ascent, just before 2 pm on that day.

"They had to be harnessed and rescued down. It got stuck, it's the big one there that goes through the loop - it goes up, God knows high, and then straight back down and then loops. It literally just got stuck, right at the top," the woman was quoted by The Mirror as saying.

The affected carriages were suspended on the vertical climb section of the rollercoaster, known for its Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter model, which offers passengers a unique experience of being transported up while lying on their backs and then sent on a thrilling rollercoaster journey, featuring a drop of over 90°.

The stranded individuals endured approximately 30 to 45 minutes at the top before being safely rescued. Thankfully, the park's staff handled the situation calmly and efficiently, reassuring the stranded riders without reports of screaming or mass panic. A considerable crowd gathered to observe the rescue operation.

Interestingly, this incident came just a few weeks after another rollercoaster mishap at Alton Towers, where the renowned Smiler ride also came to an abrupt stop. The carriages of the Smiler ride were halted on a vertical section before being gradually brought back down.

As investigations continue into the cause of the rollercoaster's breakdown, safety measures and protocols are likely to be scrutinized to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the well-being of amusement park visitors.
