Unarmed Bystander Tackles Gunman Caught on Camera

A 15-second video circulating online shows an unarmed man hiding behind parked cars before sprinting towards one of the gunmen from behind. The attacker was taking cover near a tree when the bystander grabbed him by the neck, wrestled him to the ground, and snatched away his rifle.

The gunman is seen falling flat on the sand as the civilian points the weapon back at him, effectively neutralising the threat. The bold intervention unfolded amid the sound of gunfire and chaos as beachgoers scrambled to escape.

According to eyewitness accounts, around 50 shots were fired during the attack. The shooting occurred roughly two hours before the video began circulating, by which time emergency services had already rushed to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that 10 people lost their lives in the mass shooting, marking one of the deadliest incidents in recent Australian history. Several others were injured, though the exact number has not yet been disclosed.

NSW Police Issue Alerts, Confirm Two in Custody

New South Wales Police issued their first public update at 2:17 pm IST, stating they were responding to a rapidly developing situation.

"Police are on scene and more information will be provided when it comes to hand," NSW Police wrote on social media, urging people to avoid the area and seek shelter.

Later, police confirmed that two individuals had been taken into custody at Bondi Beach. In a subsequent update, NSW Police said, "The police operation is ongoing and we continue to urge people to avoid the area. Please obey all police directions. Do not cross police lines."

PM Albanese Calls Scenes 'Shocking and Distressing'

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the visuals from Bondi as deeply troubling, expressing concern for those affected by the violence.

"Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected," Albanese said in a statement.

He added, "I have just spoken to the AFP Commissioner and with the NSW Premier. We are working with the NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed. I urge people in the vicinity to follow information from the NSW Police."

Security operations remain ongoing as investigators work to piece together the events that led to the attack.
