Garth Collins, a sports massage therapist, shared a video clip highlighting the dire conditions on board. The clip featured Damian Collins, a Muay Thai fighter, visibly sweating profusely while other passengers behind him frantically fanned themselves and tried to stay hydrated.

The passengers were forced to improvise, using inflight magazines to fan themselves in an attempt to alleviate their discomfort. Garth provided a detailed account of the ordeal, stating, "Damian Collins and the other passengers were confined on board Qatar Airways flight QR204 for 3.5 hours with the doors closed. There was no air cooling and no sustenance provided. The heat became so unbearable that people started passing out, and panic spread throughout the cabin.

Damian, despite being a fit and conditioned athlete, experienced significant stress and danger. It is hard to imagine how much worse it must have been for the average individual. Currently, passengers are standing in long queues at the check-in counters, desperate to find out when they will be flown out of Athens and what arrangements will be made for their connecting flights in Doha.

The situation was chaotic as passengers struggled with the rising temperatures. Video footage shared by Garth Collins depicted a scene of distress, with individuals using any available means to cool down, including inflight magazines. The lack of air conditioning led to a severe and prolonged exposure to heat, which was particularly dangerous given the confined space and the number of people affected.

According to The Mirror, after more than three hours, passengers were eventually allowed to leave the aircraft and return to the terminal building at Athens International Airport, where they awaited further instructions. The delay not only caused significant physical discomfort but also disrupted their travel plans, leading to considerable frustration among the passengers.

Local reports indicated that the delayed flight eventually landed in Doha at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, significantly later than the scheduled arrival time of 6:20 p.m. on Monday. This substantial delay impacted the passengers' connecting flights and overall travel schedules, causing further inconvenience and distress.

A spokesperson for Qatar Airways addressed the situation, stating, "Qatar Airways sincerely apologizes for the delay experienced by passengers traveling on flight QR204 from Athens (ATH) to Doha (DOH) on Monday, 10 June 2024. The delay was caused by a technical issue with the aircraft's air conditioning system, which resulted in uncomfortable conditions for those on board. We understand the severity of the situation and are taking steps to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future. We are also making arrangements to accommodate the affected passengers and assist them with their onward travel."
