A concert hall in a Moscow suburb was targeted by a group of armed men, as reported by Russian authorities and state-run media, resulting in multiple injuries and suspected fatalities, on Friday night.

Online videos depicted at least two masked men entering Crocus City Hall, with one seen firing shots repeatedly from what appeared to be an assault rifle.

Deadly Attack at Moscow Concert Hall

Footage circulating on the internet showed individuals evacuating the concert hall and fleeing down stairwells. Additionally, the state-run TASS news agency released visuals showing a significant fire at Crocus City Hall, situated approximately 16 kilometres northwest of Moscow's centre.

Following initial reports of the shooting, Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov stated his presence at the scene and assumed leadership in response efforts. More than 70 ambulance teams were deployed near Crocus City Hall, with medical personnel attending to the injured, as confirmed by Vorobyov.

Spetznaz and riot police units were dispatched to address the incident, according to an anonymous law enforcement source cited by TASS news agency. Reportedly, three men opened fire on the concert hall attendees, as recounted by reporters present at the scene.

Descriptions from eyewitnesses indicated that individuals in camouflage attire breached Crocus City Hall's stalls, initiating gunfire with automatic weapons. Additionally, reports mentioned a grenade or incendiary bomb being thrown, leading to a fire outbreak.

Emergency services focused on evacuating individuals from Crocus City Hall, with around 100 people already evacuated from the basement, according to the Moscow region's branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry, as reported by Moscow Times.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced orders to assist those affected by the shooting, expressing condolences to the victims' families. The White House extended condolences to the victims of the shooting, expressing efforts to gather more information and denouncing the tragic event.
