US President Trump Is Now A Comic Book Villain In Canada, Elon Musk Is His Sidekick
US President Donald Trump, who has been hitting headlines for his big announcements on tariffs, has become a comic figure in a superhero book. In short, a supervillian.
In response to Trump's controversial policies and fiery rhetoric, Canadians have found a symbol of defiance in a familiar yet timely hero-Captain Canuck.

The Return of Captain Canuck
For the unversed, Captain Canuc had first emerged in the 1970s. Now, it is making a dramatic comeback. Clad in a red-and-white suit emblazoned with a maple leaf, he embodies the spirit of Canadian sovereignty.
Richard Comely created the comicbook in which Canuck is depicted as a government operative with superhuman strength. His civilian identity, Tom Evans, is a Mountie who acquires his abilities after a close encounter with aliens.
"All of a sudden Canadians are looking to Captain Canuck as a symbol. And it's basically, to them, Captain Canuck symbolizes independence," Comely shared.
The character's resurgence coincides with growing unease over Trump's remarks, including his reference to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a "Governor" and his offhanded suggestion about annexing Canada.
A Villainous Pair: Trump and Musk
Trump's transformation into a comic book antagonist goes beyond his words and trade restrictions. In the illustrated world, he's joined by another prominent figure-Elon Musk-who takes on the role of his sidekick.
Trump's repeated allusions to Canada as America's "51st state" and his implementation of strict tariffs widened the rift between the two nations.
However, not just Trump alone, the world's richest man Elon Musk has is also seen as a disruptive figure in global politics due to his close proximity with the US President.
Musk also found himself in the crosshairs, with many Canadians viewing him as a disruptive force in global politics. This perception inspired his portrayal as a comic book underling, ultimately shown being hurled out alongside Trump by Captain Canuck.
The imagery of the superhero taking on both figures struck a chord, catapulting the comic into bestseller status across Canada.
A Hero for the Modern Era
Captain Canuck's revival isn't merely a nostalgic nod-it reflects a broader longing for a uniquely Canadian identity.
"I think there was an undercurrent, so to speak, in Canada in the '70s... we had our own culture and be proud of the fact that we were Canadians," Comely said.
Since his 1975 debut, Captain Canuck has been featured in millions of comics, with his legacy further cemented through a partnership with Chapterhouse Comics. His resurgence now extends to an animated web series and an array of merchandise.
Marking its 50th anniversary, the latest edition features a bold cover where Captain Canuck directly confronts Trump. Comely remarked, "We feel like, okay, we've got to stand in opposition to these proposals."
The superhero has seen numerous reinventions over the decades, but this latest revival may be his most significant yet.
"So in a sense, we have Mr. Trump to thank for a bit of resurgence," Comely acknowledged with a hint of irony.
