US President Donald Trump Announces 25% Tariffs On Japan, South Korea
US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on goods from Japan and South Korea, effective August 1. This decision was shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he posted letters sent to the leaders of these countries. The letters warned against retaliatory tariff increases, stating any increase would be added to the existing 25% charge.
The announcement coincides with Trump's plan to send letters to leaders of a dozen countries. These letters caution against raising import taxes, as such actions could lead to increased US tariffs. This move could impact Japan and South Korea's auto and electronics sectors significantly.

Impact on India
India is also expected to receive a tariff letter from Trump soon. New Delhi and Washington are in negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement. The deal aims to be finalised before July 9, after which a 26% tariff on Indian goods will be implemented.
The potential tariffs have raised concerns about their effects on international trade relations. Countries involved are considering their responses carefully, given the possible economic repercussions.
In his letter to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Trump stated: "If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by, will be added onto the 25 per cent that we charge."
The looming tariffs have sparked discussions about their impact on global trade dynamics. As countries weigh their options, the situation remains tense with potential implications for various industries.
