US Commends India for Largest Democratic Exercise in Parliamentary Elections

The United States has extended its commendation towards India for conducting what is described as the largest democratic exercise in history, following the recent parliamentary elections. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed admiration for both the Indian government and its electorate for the successful completion of this extensive electoral process. "On behalf of the United States, we want to commend the government of India and voters there for successfully completing and participating in such a massive electoral undertaking, and we look forward to seeing final results," Miller conveyed during his daily press briefing.

US Lauds Indias Election Process

Miller further clarified the US's position of neutrality regarding the outcomes of elections globally. "I'm also not going to comment on winners and losers in elections as is our case around the world. What is important for us and what we have seen over the past six weeks is the largest exercise of democracy in history, as the Indian people came to the polls," he added. This statement underscores the US's stance on maintaining a diplomatic distance from internal electoral results of other nations while acknowledging the significance of democratic practices.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on the verge of securing a third consecutive term in office, with early results indicating a majority win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha, India's lower house of Parliament. The BJP itself was leading or had won in 240 constituencies, positioning itself as the single largest party within the 543-member Lok Sabha.

The BJP's coalition partners, including the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal United (JDU), also showed strong performances in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, leading or winning in 16 and 12 seats respectively. These victories, along with those of other allies, were pivotal in propelling the NDA towards surpassing the 272-seat threshold required for a majority.

This electoral achievement not only signifies a continued mandate for Modi and his party but also highlights the vibrancy and robustness of democratic engagement in India. As the world's largest democracy, India's electoral process has once again demonstrated its capacity to conduct extensive and complex elections with efficiency and transparency.
