US Applauds India for Smooth Conduct and Completion of Lok Sabha Elections
The United States has extended its commendations to the Indian government and its citizens for the successful conduct and participation in the recent Lok Sabha elections. In a statement that underscores the significance of democratic processes, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller highlighted the massive scale of the electoral exercise in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on the verge of securing a third term in office, leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to a majority win in the Lok Sabha, despite facing significant challenges in key states.

The Election Commission of India has announced results for 542 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, revealing a substantial victory for the BJP with 240 seats, while the Congress party secured 99 seats. This election, marked by intense campaigning and widespread public engagement, was seen as a critical assessment of Modi's leadership and policies.
During his daily news briefing, Miller responded to inquiries about the election outcomes and the performance of political entities. He emphasized the preliminary nature of the results, indicating that a more detailed commentary would be provided once the final tallies are confirmed. "First of all, our understanding is that the election results have not been finalized. So we will wait for the finalization of those election results before we offer any definitive comment," Miller stated.
Miller also addressed concerns regarding external influences on India's electoral process, firmly denying any attempts by Western powers, including the United States, to sway the election outcomes. He reaffirmed the US's commitment to expressing its views transparently and engaging with foreign governments on matters of mutual concern both privately and publicly.
The spokesperson further expressed optimism about the future of US-India relations, highlighting the strong partnership at both governmental and people-to-people levels. "There is a great partnership...and I fully expect that to continue," he concluded, reflecting on the shared democratic values and interests that bind the two nations.
This acknowledgment from the United States serves as a testament to India's robust democratic framework and its ability to conduct extensive electoral exercises with efficiency and transparency. As India prepares for another term under Modi's leadership, international observers and partners like the US watch closely, anticipating continued collaboration and dialogue between these two significant global players.
