US Navy’s F-35-C Stealth Fighter Crashes In California - Watch First Video
A US Navy F-35 stealth aircraft crashed in California near Naval Air Station Lemoore, according to a report in CNN.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, with the pilot ejecting safely, a statement from the Navy said. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation and the aircraft was part of Strike Fighter Squadron VF-125, also known as the "Rough Raiders," which is responsible for training pilots and aircrew.

Naval Air Station Lemoore, situated approximately 37 miles south of Fresno, confirmed that the F-35 jet crashed around 6:30 p.m. in a field near West Cadillac and South Dickinson avenues. The F-35C Lightning II, developed by Lockheed Martin, is a carrier-based variant of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter family used by the U.S. Navy.
F-35C's Unique Features
The F-35C is designed specifically for carrier operations, featuring larger wings and reinforced landing gear compared to its Air Force (F-35A) and Marine Corps (F-35B) counterparts. These modifications enable catapult launches and arrested landings on aircraft carriers. Its stealth capabilities allow it to evade advanced radar systems effectively.
The aircraft's advanced avionics include the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and Distributed Aperture System (DAS), providing unmatched situational awareness. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney F135 engine, the F-35C has a range exceeding 1,200 nautical miles and can carry various payloads while maintaining its stealth profile.
Operational Capabilities
The F-35C is equipped for missions ranging from air superiority and strike warfare to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). It achieved initial operational capability with the Navy in 2019 and has since been deployed on carriers like the USS Carl Vinson.
Despite facing challenges such as cost overruns and development delays, the F-35C remains vital for projecting U.S. naval power. It counters advanced threats like China's J-20 and maintains dominance in contested environments. As of 2025, it continues to evolve with software upgrades and enhanced capabilities.
The F-35C's role as the Navy's premier multirole fighter is solidified for decades to come due to its evolving capabilities. It remains a cornerstone of naval air superiority through its combination of advanced stealth, sensor fusion, and network-enabled operations.
