Biden: US Military Strikes in Yemen to Continue Despite Limited Success
President Biden confirmed the ongoing US military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, acknowledging their limited effectiveness in halting rebel attacks on Red Sea vessels.
President Joe Biden has announced that the United States will continue military strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. However, he acknowledged that the American and British bombardment has yet to stop the militants' attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, which have disrupted global shipping.

Ongoing Strikes and Targets
The United States conducted a fifth strike on Thursday morning, targeting another missile launcher site. The strikes were launched from the Red Sea and hit 14 missiles that the command deemed an "imminent threat." These actions follow the US military's previous wave of ship- and submarine-launched missile strikes against Houthi-controlled sites on Wednesday, marking the fourth time in days that the group has been directly targeted in Yemen.
Designation as Specially Designated Global Terrorists
In addition to military strikes, the US has designated the Houthis as specially designated global terrorists. This formal designation aims to sever violent extremist groups from their sources of financing while allowing vital humanitarian aid to continue flowing to impoverished Yemenis.
Continued Houthi Attacks and International Response
Despite sanctions and military strikes, the Houthis continue to harass commercial and military ships. The US has strongly warned Iran to cease providing weapons to the Houthis. The attacks have targeted commercial shipping vessels transiting through the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which links markets in Asia and Europe.
To address this issue, the US and its allies have formed Operation Prosperity Guardian to protect ship traffic. Warships from the United States, France, and the United Kingdom are currently patrolling the area.
The US military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen are ongoing, with President Biden emphasizing their continuation until necessary. Despite these efforts, the Houthis continue to pose a threat to global shipping in the Red Sea. International cooperation and diplomatic efforts are crucial to finding a lasting solution to the conflict and ensuring the safety of maritime trade.
