Speaking to the Financial Times, Trump had said, "Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don't. We have a lot of options."

That remark is now being viewed in a new light following Tuesday's reported strike. Targeting Kharg Island is widely seen as a calculated move aimed at cutting off Iran's oil exports and reducing its leverage at a time when tensions over the Strait of Hormuz have pushed the region closer to a broader crisis.
