US issues 271 sanctions against Syria

The Treasury ordered a freeze on all assets in the United States belonging to 271 employees of the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center, and blocked any American person or business from dealing with them.

The SSRC was responsible for producing the chemical weapons Washington believes were used in the attack and the means to deliver them.

According to US officials the new treasury will be the part of ongoing crackdown by the Trump on the Syrian government.

The decision to expand sanctions on Syria comes less than a month after the US fired missiles on a Syrian warfield. The U.S. strike was retaliation for the recent chemical attack on Syrian civilians, which the U.S. blames on Assad's government.
