US Elections: Will Donald Trump's Close Call With Death Boost His Campaign?

The shooting incident involving former President Donald Trump has created a major shift in the US' political landscape, potentially influencing the upcoming elections.

Veteran Clinton campaign consultant Dick Morris commented on the situation, suggesting that the assassination attempt could greatly benefit the Republicans.

In a conversation with WABV for their podcast, he stated, "Functionally, the race is over. [Trump] wins if he lives. ... There's nothing that can get into Trump's path except a bullet."

Morris analysed that the incident might garner the Republicans an additional 10-15 points over the Democrats, given the current momentum at the Republican Convention in Milwaukee.

This lead would be challenging for President Biden and the Democrats, who are already facing internal debates over Biden's mental and physical health.

Despite suggestions to re-elect someone else, the 81-year-old Biden has refused to step down as the party's torchbearer.

Referring to Trump's raised-fist show after the shooting, Morris said, "It was just amazing ... This will go down in history. It's going to bolster him in the polling, obviously. The question is how much and what impact."

This visual has become one of the most iconic moments from the rally shooting on Saturday.

According to the Telegraph, Trump has based his campaign on the narrative that various entities, including federal prosecutors, judges, election officials, and rival politicians, were out to get him. The incident now stands as proof of his statement.

Since the shooting, Trump has adopted a statesman-like demeanor, highlighting unity and resilience with statements like "fear not" and asserting that the American people will not allow "evil to win."

This incident could also impact Trump's criminal case, painting him in a new light and potentially influencing public perception and legal proceedings.
