Former US President Donald Trump clinched a significant victory in the battleground state of North Carolina, successfully defending it against Kamala Harris, who had hoped to turn the state blue and expand her potential paths to a winning 270 electoral votes. As reported by the Associated Press at 10:08 a.m. IST, Trump had accumulated 230 electoral votes, while Harris trailed with 205.

In the final campaign stretch, Trump concentrated his efforts in North Carolina, visiting the state three days in a row to secure this essential win. Meanwhile, Jen O'Malley Dillon, Harris's campaign chair, acknowledged that the Democratic Party now viewed the "blue wall" states-Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin-as the clearest route to victory. Polls have already closed in these states, along with other critical battlegrounds such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada; however, the results remain too close to call.

As the evening progressed, Trump claimed Florida, a former battleground that has shifted more solidly toward Republicans in recent years. The former president also saw success in traditionally conservative states like Texas, South Carolina, and Indiana, while Harris secured Democratic strongholds, including New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois.

Notably, support among Black and Latino voters for Harris was slightly lower than for Joe Biden four years prior, with Trump seeing modest gains within these demographics, according to AP VoteCast. For Harris supporters, preserving democracy appeared to be a driving factor, suggesting that her campaign's messaging highlighting Trump's alleged authoritarian leanings resonated with many voters.
