US Election 2024 Opinion Poll: Michelle Obama Emerges As Top Contender To Replace Biden In 2024

In the Democratic party's 2024 ticket, former First Lady Michelle Obama is considered the leading choice to replace Joe Biden, as indicated by the Rasmussen Reports polls, where at least half of Democrats express a preference for someone other than Biden to contest the November elections.

It is reported that 48% of voters would approve if the Democrats were to find another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the November election, while 38% of respondents would disapprove of such a decision.

Michelle Obama Might Replace Biden: US Polls

Notably, only 33% of Democrats believe that such a ballot shakeup would occur. The pollster notes a lack of consensus among voters regarding who should replace Biden on the ballot in the event he does not seek reelection. Michelle Obama emerges as the top choice among potential Biden substitutes, garnering 20% support among a list of options that also includes Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, along with the options "none of the above" and "not sure."

Among Democrats, the majority prefer the option of "none of the above," selected by 27% of respondents. Kamala Harris receives 15% of the votes, while 12% favour a rematch between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. California Governor Gavin Newsom, accused of orchestrating a "shadow campaign" for the presidency in the event of Biden's withdrawal due to health reasons, receives backing from 11% of respondents. Whitmer, the youngest of the group at 52, receives support from 9% of respondents.

Last year, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz suggested that Michelle Obama could be "parachuted in" at the Democratic National Convention, which will be held in Chicago this year, and then be named the party's nominee instead of Biden. Chicago is Michelle Obama's hometown. However, Michelle Obama has repeatedly stated her desire to remain aloof from politics. Biden is reportedly trailing his predecessor and former president Donald Trump in many polls across key battleground states. As of yet, he has not given any indication of stepping aside to allow another Democrat to run in his place.
