Who is Ashwin Ramaswami?

Ramaswami's parents immigrated to the US from Tamil Nadu in 1990, establishing him as a second-generation Indian-American. His mother hails from Chennai, and his father from Coimbatore, both employed in the Information Technology sector. Having attended Georgia Tech, Stanford University, and Georgetown University Law Center, the young candidate holds degrees in computer science and law.

His professional journey has seen involvement in election security, technology law, and policy research. He is known for his deep-rooted pride in his Indian heritage, with a keen interest in philosophy and ancient texts such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Bhagavad Gita. Additionally, he has engaged in yoga and meditation practices, even imparting teachings to younger students.

Ramaswami's entry into government work began through collaborations with nonprofits, startups, and small businesses to leverage technology for public welfare and job creation. As a civil servant, he contributed to cybersecurity and election security initiatives at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), partnering with state and local election offices for the security of the 2020 and 2022 elections.

He also served as a legal fellow in the Consumer Protection Division of the Georgia Attorney General's office. His academic background in computer science from Stanford prompted him to recognize the need for more tech professionals in federal government roles, leading him to transition to government service in 2020, focusing on election security and cybersecurity efforts.
