US: Brown University Shooting Kills Two, Injures Eight During Final Exams

A shooting near Brown University's School of Engineering in Providence, Rhode Island, left at least two people dead and eight others injured on Saturday, triggering panic on campus during final examinations.

The gunfire erupted close to the Barus & Holley building, a seven-storey facility that houses the university's engineering school and physics department. The complex includes more than 100 laboratories, along with classrooms and administrative offices.

Following the incident, Brown University issued an active shooter alert, urging students and staff to take immediate shelter. The emergency message instructed people to lock doors, silence their phones, and remain hidden until authorities confirmed it was safe.

In an initial alert, the university said a suspect had been taken into custody. That statement was later revised, with officials clarifying that police were still searching for one or more suspects connected to the attack.

Local and regional law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene, while emergency medical teams provided treatment to the injured. The campus was placed under heightened security as the investigation continued.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that federal agents were assisting local authorities. In a post on social media platform X, Patel said the FBI was offering "all capabilities necessary" to support the investigation and asked for prayers for those affected, adding that further details would be released as they became available.
