“UPI Will Soon Be Used In Israel,” Says PM Modi As India, Israel Hold Joint Press Meet

India and Israel have taken a fresh step in strengthening bilateral cooperation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing that India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will soon be usable in Israel.

The move is expected to improve financial connectivity and ease transactions for travellers, businesses and investors between the two countries.

Digital payments partnership gathers pace

During high-level discussions with Israeli leadership, both sides agreed to link their UPI systems. Once implemented, Indian visitors and companies operating in Israel will be able to make digital payments seamlessly, while Israeli businesses will also gain smoother access to India's digital payment ecosystem. The initiative is being seen as a major milestone in financial technology cooperation between the two nations.

Modi backs peace efforts in Gaza

Speaking about the ongoing tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Modi emphasised India's humanitarian position. He said, "Humanity must never become a victim of conflict," and added that India has supported the Gaza peace plan. The statement underlined New Delhi's effort to balance diplomatic ties while advocating stability and dialogue in the region.

Multiple agreements signed across sectors

Following talks between Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, both countries signed a series of agreements aimed at widening cooperation. The deals cover areas such as innovation, agriculture and technological development, sectors where India and Israel already collaborate closely.

Free trade pact discussions advance

Prime Minister Modi also said the two countries are working toward a trade framework, noting that India and Israel will soon give final shape to a mutually beneficial free trade agreement. Officials believe the proposed FTA could significantly increase trade volumes, boost investments and encourage joint research and startup collaboration.

The latest developments signal that India-Israel relations are moving beyond defence and security cooperation toward economic integration, technology exchange and digital financial connectivity.
