Unverified Audio of Alleged Attack on Indian Ships Goes Viral Online

An audio clip claiming to capture a tense exchange between an Indian vessel and Iranian forces is rapidly circulating across the internet, sparking concern over maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz. However, the authenticity of the recording has not been independently confirmed.

In the viral clip, a voice-said to be from a crew member aboard the motor tanker Sanmar Herald-appears to question why the ship is being fired upon despite having received clearance to pass through the strait. The speaker urgently requests permission to turn back as the situation escalates.

The audio, widely shared on social media and by maritime tracking platforms, has added to the uncertainty surrounding recent developments in the region.

Shipping Movement Disrupted

Amid the confusion, multiple Indian vessels reportedly faced disruptions while navigating the critical oil route. At least four ships were forced to alter their course, with two allegedly coming under fire. One tanker, however, managed to pass through the strait.

Authorities in Iran had earlier indicated that the passage was open, only to later announce its closure again, citing ongoing tensions and a blockade linked to the United States.

India Raises Concern with Iran

In response, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Iran's ambassador Mohammad Fathali and lodged a formal protest.

Indian officials conveyed serious concern over the reported incident involving Indian-flagged ships and stressed the importance of ensuring safe passage through the strategically vital waterway.
