Hill reportedly climbed onto the cash register and shot Patel before she could hand over any money. "During the firing, Kiran Patel threw something like a plastic bottle at the robber and ran away, and the robber also ran after her," stated the GoFundMe account.

As Patel attempted to escape towards the parking lot to save herself, she was struck by a bullet and collapsed after running about twenty feet. The assailant - later identified as Hill - fled but returned to fire another shot at Patel as she lay unconscious on the ground.

On Thursday following the incident, law enforcement agencies including SWAT and Union Public Safety executed a search warrant at a residence on South Church Street. A standoff ensued between Hill and authorities for several hours.

Eventually, SWAT and other officers successfully extracted Hill from the house. He was subsequently booked into Union County jail and charged with murder.
