UN Approves US Ceasefire Proposal for Gaza, Hamas Seeks Changes
The US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was approved by the United Nations with a 14-0 vote. However, Hamas has put forth new terms for the ceasefire, delaying its acceptance. This delay has led to continued violence in the region.

Hamas wants more time to implement the ceasefire agreement. This means that the devastation in Gaza continues. Israel has agreed to the US proposal, but Hamas has rejected most of its terms.

On Tuesday, Hamas and its associates submitted their response to Egypt and Qatar. An Egyptian official said Hamas proposed a new timeline for ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli soldiers from Gaza. Egypt has not made an official statement yet.
Israel claims that Hamas' response is like rejecting the ceasefire proposal. Israel says that Hamas repeated old demands, which differ from the new proposal. Egypt, Doha, and the US are working to convince both parties to reach an agreement.

On Monday, the United Nations Security Council approved the three-phase ceasefire proposal by US President Joe Biden. They urged Hamas to accept it. A Hamas official said that they want a permanent end to hostilities, withdrawal of Israeli forces, reconstruction of Palestine, and release of Palestinian prisoners.
The US says Israel has accepted its proposal passed by the UNSC. However, Israel has not publicly confirmed this. Israel continues its operations in Gaza until Hamas is destroyed.
An Israeli official said mediators informed Israel of Hamas' response. Hamas has changed all main proposals and rejected President Biden's proposal on releasing hostages.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad expressed readiness to reach an agreement to end the war in Gaza. Some interpreted this as agreeing to the US proposal.
Biden's ceasefire plan proposes a phased release of Hamas prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The plan includes a 6-week ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza, and release of some hostages.
The White House did not respond immediately to the Israeli official's comment on Tuesday. US officials said they were reviewing Hamas' response.
On October 7, Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing over 1,200 Israelis. Since then, Israel has been attacking Gaza continuously. Hamas claims over 36,000 people have been killed in these attacks and still holds over 100 Israeli hostages.
