UK MP Bob Blackman Calls for Action Against Khalistani Terrorists Disrupting Emergency Film Screenings

In north-west London, masked individuals disrupted a screening of Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency," prompting a Conservative MP to call for action. Bob Blackman addressed the UK Parliament, highlighting similar incidents in Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Slough, Staines, and Manchester. These disruptions led Vue and Cineworld cinemas to withdraw the film from many UK theatres.

UK MP Condemns Disruption of Emergency Film

Blackman recounted how his constituents had gathered at Harrow Vue cinema for the film. However, 30 to 40 minutes into the screening, masked individuals interrupted, threatening the audience and halting the film. He emphasised that while the film is controversial, people should have the right to view it without intimidation.

Free Speech and Right to Protest

The MP stressed that despite some views in the UK labelling it as anti-Sikh, his constituents should decide for themselves. He urged Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to ensure people can watch such films peacefully. "I absolutely defend the right of people to demonstrate outside cinemas, but not to disrupt viewings," he stated.

Lucy Powell, representing the Labour Party government, acknowledged Blackman's concerns about balancing free speech with peaceful protest rights. She assured that an update would be provided on these significant issues. "The ability of people to go about their activities freely whatever they choose to do," she noted.

Protests and Screenings

Since its release last Friday, some British Sikh groups have protested against "Emergency," disrupting screenings in various UK locations. The Sikh Press Association claimed on social media that the film is perceived as "anti-Sikh," leading to cancellations in Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

Insight UK shared a video on its X platform showing masked protesters interrupting a London screening of the film. Directed by Ranaut, she also plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the movie. These protests have sparked debates over freedom of expression and public safety at cinema screenings.

The situation has raised questions about ensuring public safety while respecting freedom of expression. Authorities are expected to address these concerns promptly to prevent further disruptions and maintain peace during public events.
