TTP hails Supreme Court verdict against trial of civilians in military courts

The banned terror group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has hailed the Supreme Courts verdict against the trial of civilians in military courts, saying it would help facilitate the release of its members facing similar trials.

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has expressed its support for the Supreme Court's verdict against the trial of civilians in military courts. The group believes that the decision will facilitate the release of its members facing similar trials.

TTP Spokesperson Praises Verdict

In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, TTP spokesperson Muhammad Khurasani said the court order has shown that Pakistan's higher judiciary has the courage to take decisions against anti-Islam forces in the country.

Background of the Verdict

On October 23, Pakistan's Supreme Court declared the trial of civilians arrested following the violent protests on May 9 in military courts as null and void. The court ordered authorities to conduct their hearings in ordinary courts. A five-member bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Ijazul Ahsan in its short verdict ordered that 102 accused arrested under the Army Act be tried in a criminal court.

TTP Verdict Victory for the Group

Khurasani said the Supreme Court's unanimous verdict against the trial of civilians in military courts has won the hearts of the TTP. He claimed that the verdict proved that the sentences awarded to the TTP warriors by the military courts were biased and illegal.

TTP Claims Injustices by Military Courts

The statement further claimed that the TTP has been a victim of injustices by military courts during its struggle for the imposition of an Islamic system in the country. Many of their members were awarded rigorous imprisonment by the military courts, it said.

The Supreme Court's verdict has been seen as a victory for the TTP and a blow to the military's efforts to try civilians in military courts. The decision is likely to have implications for the ongoing conflict between the Pakistani government and the TTP.
