Trump Warns Of Additional 50% Tariffs On China If Retaliatory Measures Remain

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday issued a stern warning to China, threatening to slap an additional 50 percent tariff on all Chinese imports if Beijing fails to withdraw its newly imposed retaliatory duties.

The warning follows China's move to implement a 34 percent counter-tariff on American goods, in response to Trump's recent decision to levy reciprocal tariffs of 34 percent on Chinese imports. With the latest hike, the total U.S. tariff burden on Chinese goods now stands at 54 percent.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that unless China reverses its 34 percent retaliatory tariff by April 8, 2025, the U.S. will escalate the trade war further by introducing an additional 50 percent tariff, effective April 9, 2025.

"If China does not withdraw its 34 percent increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50 percent, effective April 9th," Trump stated.

The U.S. president also signaled that Washington is open to starting trade negotiations with other countries that express interest, suggesting a broader shift in U.S. trade alliances as the conflict with China intensifies.
