Trump Calls for US to Become 'Crypto Capital of the Planet' at Nashville Bitcoin Conference
Former President Donald Trump has announced his intention to fully support cryptocurrency if re-elected. Speaking to a crowd of digital token enthusiasts, he expressed his vision for the US to become a "bitcoin superpower." This declaration was made during his keynote speech at a bitcoin conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Trump's address highlighted his plan to transform the United States into the "crypto capital of the planet." He proposed creating a bitcoin "strategic reserve" using the currency currently held by the government. Additionally, he vowed to remove Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler and establish a crypto advisory council, inviting attendees to join.
Trump's Shift on Cryptocurrency
In 2019, Trump was critical of cryptocurrencies, describing their value as "highly volatile and based on thin air." However, his stance has shifted significantly in recent years. His campaign began accepting cryptocurrency donations in May, reflecting this change. During his nearly 50-minute speech, Trump contrasted his support for cryptocurrency with the Biden administration's regulatory efforts, accusing them of "blocking your way."
Plans for Cryptocurrency Regulation
Trump assured supporters that while regulations would be in place, they would be crafted by individuals who support the industry. "We will have regulations, but from now on the rules will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry," he stated. He emphasized his desire for cryptocurrency to be "mined, minted and made" in the United States.
The former president also addressed law enforcement seizures of digital tokens, promising to convert this wealth into a national asset for all Americans. He reiterated his commitment to commuting the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, who created the Silk Road website and is serving a life sentence for his role in drug-related deaths linked to the site.
Support from Attendees and Officials
Some attendees at the conference wore "Free Ross Day One" hats in support of Ulbricht. Tennessee's US Senator Marsha Blackburn called Trump's announcement of a bitcoin strategic reserve a "historic moment." The event drew nearly 800 participants eager to hear Trump's plans.
Trump's remarks came a day after independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also spoke at the conference, proposing a similar strategic bitcoin reserve. This indicates growing political interest in integrating cryptocurrency into national economic strategies.
The former president's evolving stance on digital currency marks a significant shift from his previous views. As he continues to embrace cryptocurrency, it remains to be seen how these plans will unfold if he returns to office.
