Trump Transition Team Reports Bomb Threats Targeting Cabinet Nominees and Appointees

Several of President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees and appointees have recently been subjected to bomb threats and "swatting" incidents, according to Trump's transition team. "Last night and this morning, several of President Trump's Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them," Trump transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. She mentioned that these attacks included both bomb threats and swatting.

Bomb Threats Target Trump Cabinet Picks

Swatting involves falsely reporting an emergency to provoke a law enforcement response against a victim. The FBI has acknowledged the situation, stating they are "aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees, and we are working with our law enforcement partners. We take all potential threats seriously, and as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement."

Targeted Individuals

One of the individuals targeted was New York Representative Elise Stefanik, chosen by Trump as the next ambassador to the United Nations. Her office reported that while she, her husband, and their young son were traveling home from Washington for Thanksgiving, they received news of a bomb threat at their Saratoga County residence. Local law enforcement and U.S. Capitol Police responded promptly.

In Florida, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office shared on Facebook that they received a bomb threat concerning former Congressman Matt Gaetz's supposed mailbox in Niceville. Although a family member lives there, Gaetz does not reside at that address. The mailbox was checked and cleared, with no devices found.

Gaetz was initially considered for the role of attorney general but withdrew after allegations surfaced about his involvement with underage women. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing, stating that a Justice Department investigation concluded without charges.

Political Climate

These threats come after a campaign season marked by violence. In July, a gunman fired shots at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injuring Trump slightly and killing one supporter. Later, an assassination attempt was thwarted at Trump's West Palm Beach golf course when an agent noticed a gun barrel through the fence.

The swift response from law enforcement has been praised by Trump's transition team. "President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action," Leavitt stated. The dedication of officers who ensure community safety was also commended by Stefanik's office: "We are incredibly appreciative of the extraordinary dedication of law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe 24/7."

The incidents highlight ongoing security challenges faced by public figures amid heightened political tensions. Authorities continue to investigate these threats thoroughly to prevent future occurrences.
