Trump To Attend Historic Notre Dame Cathedral Reopening In Paris On December 7
US President-elect Donald Trump is set to visit Paris this weekend to participate in the long-awaited reopening of the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral.
The historic French Gothic monument, known for its grandeur and cultural significance, was severely damaged in a fire on April 15, 2019. After five years of restoration efforts, the cathedral is now ready to welcome the world back, as reported by Hindustan Times.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his excitement, stating, "It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the magnificent and historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago." He also commended French President Emmanuel Macron for his leadership in ensuring the restoration of the cathedral, calling it a "wonderful job."
A Glorious Return for the 13th-Century Icon
Considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, the Notre Dame Cathedral dates back to the 13th century. Its restoration is not only a testament to France's architectural heritage but also a symbol of resilience following the tragic fire. The reopening celebrations will begin on December 7 and continue through December 8, followed by a series of events lasting until December 15. The celebrations will include two special concerts of Jean-Sébastien Bach's Magnificat on December 17 and 18, as reported by PTI.
Olivier Josse, secretary general for the cathedral, remarked that the reopening marks a "very big moment" for the world, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding the event. He urged visitors to be patient as the long-awaited restoration is finally revealed.
A Ceremonial Reopening
The ceremonial reopening will take place in the afternoon on December 7, in the presence of President Macron and Donald Trump, along with officials, donors, clergy, and parish representatives from Paris. The Archbishop of Paris will preside over the service, which will feature a symbolic act where the Archbishop strikes the closed doors of the cathedral with his staff. In response, the cathedral will "sing" with the sound of Psalm 121. The doors will then open, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this beloved landmark, as per PTI reports.
On December 8, a special inaugural Mass will take place, with the consecration of the high altar. The ceremony will be attended by nearly 170 bishops from France and around the world, alongside priests from various parishes in the Diocese of Paris and Eastern Catholic Churches.
Global Significance
The reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral is not just a local or national event, but a global moment of celebration. Its significance transcends borders, as it is a cherished symbol of both religious devotion and architectural excellence. With its doors finally set to open, the world will once again be able to experience the majesty of Notre Dame, a truly irreplaceable piece of history.
Trump's visit to Paris underscores the international importance of the occasion, and his attendance at the reopening will make it even more memorable for those celebrating this monumental moment.
