Former US President Donald Trump was suddenly evacuated from the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, after a loud noise was heard and shots were fired. Video footage showed Trump quickly ducking as sharp cracks, sounding like gunshots, broke out, and Secret Service agents swiftly covered him and rushed him off stage.

Trump's campaign confirmed that he was "fine" and being checked at a local medical facility, but video showed blood on his right ear. The Secret Service escorted him into a vehicle and took over the stage with armed police.

The agency said in a statement that Trump was safe and that protective measures had been implemented, adding that an active investigation had begun and more information would be released when available.

The incident occurred as Trump was addressing his supporters in a key swing state ahead of the November election. The crowd was energized as Trump criticized his successor, President Joe Biden, and his administration. Many supporters holding placards took cover when they heard the gunshots.

Witnesses described hearing multiple shots and seeing the Secret Service jump on Trump to protect him. One witness said they heard about five sharp shots, while another described the sound as "many gunshots" followed by what sounded like a fire hose being sprayed.

The White House confirmed that President Biden had been informed of the incident. Politicians from both parties condemned the attack, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro calling it "absolutely unacceptable" and former Vice-President Mike Pence praying for Trump's safety.
