Trump Appoints Chris Wright as Energy Secretary, Emphasising US Energy Dominance and Public Engagement

Donald Trump, the President-elect, has chosen Chris Wright as the energy secretary. Wright, who leads Liberty Energy in Denver, strongly supports oil and gas development, including fracking. This aligns with Trump's aim for US energy dominance globally. The announcement came as Elon Musk, a key ally, suggested more public input for selecting the Treasury Department head.

Trump Names Chris Wright Energy Secretary

Musk, who owns the X social media platform, proposed a public poll to gather opinions on the treasury secretary choice. He expressed this idea on Saturday, emphasising the need for diverse feedback. Musk has already been appointed by Trump to co-lead a commission focused on enhancing government spending efficiency.

Elon Musk's Treasury Secretary Proposal

In his social media post, Musk became the first to participate in his proposed poll. He endorsed Howard Lutnick over Scott Bessent for the treasury secretary role. Lutnick is the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and co-chair of Trump's transition team. Musk criticised Bessent as a "business-as-usual" choice and advocated for Lutnick to bring about change.

Musk stated that continuing with traditional choices like Bessent could lead America towards bankruptcy. He emphasised the necessity for transformative leadership in financial roles. This endorsement highlights Musk's influence and his push for innovative approaches within Trump's administration.

Chris Wright's Stance on Climate Change

Wright is known for opposing climate change initiatives led by liberal groups. He argues that these efforts are failing globally due to their own complexities. His appointment might accelerate fossil fuel projects and potentially end the Biden administration's pause on natural gas export approvals.

Wright's selection follows several other key appointments by Trump, including Marco Rubio as Secretary of State and Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. These choices reflect Trump's strategic moves in shaping his cabinet ahead of his inauguration on January 20, 2025.

As Trump continues to build his team, these appointments indicate a focus on energy independence and financial reform. The involvement of influential figures like Musk suggests an openness to unconventional ideas in shaping future policies.
