Trump Seeks Major Campaign Funding From Elon Musk And GOP Donors
In Florida over the weekend, a meeting between former Republican President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk reportedly occurred as Trump seeks a significant cash infusion for his re-election campaign.
According to the New York Times, Musk, one of the world's wealthiest individuals, was met by Trump, along with several affluent Republican donors on Sunday.

Trump Seeks Funding From Musk
Trump aims to engage in a one-on-one discussion soon with Musk, who serves as the CEO of both Tesla Inc and SpaceX, and as the owner-executive chairman of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Requests for comment from the Reuters news agency were not immediately responded to by either Musk or Trump's campaign.
Trump, whose personal fortune recently faced setbacks from judgments against him in a New York civil fraud case and a separate defamation trial, seeks to secure additional major contributors for his presidential campaign, the Times reported. Musk has not indicated whether he plans to financially support Trump, but the South African-born billionaire entrepreneur has hinted in social media posts that he opposes incumbent Joe Biden's potential re-election in November, after Biden defeated Trump in 2020.
While Musk has long positioned himself as politically independent, he previously disclosed voting for Biden in 2020. However, since then, he has criticized the president and clashed with his administration. In November, a tweet sent by Musk, reportedly displaying indifference to antisemitism, was labeled "abhorrent" by the White House. Additionally, Musk's mother accused the president in December of obstructing the billionaire's efforts to improve the world.
Musk stated last year that he would not vote for Biden again and, according to the Times report, emphasized that defeating the president is a priority. With a net worth estimated by Forbes magazine at around $200 billion, Musk possesses resources that could significantly counterbalance the substantial financial advantage Biden and his supporters are expected to wield over Trump in the 2024 general election campaign, as reported by Times Now.
Financial disclosures filed last month revealed Trump's cash holdings dropping to just over $30 million as he pursued successful Republican primary campaigns, down from around $33 million a month earlier, as reported by his campaign to the Federal Election Commission (FEC). In a separate disclosure to the FEC, Biden, who faced a less competitive process for his Democratic Party's nomination, stated that his campaign ended January with approximately $56 million in cash, up from $46 million in December.
