Trump Says ‘Good News’ On Iran Talks By Friday, Tehran Denies Any Decision

US President Donald Trump has said there may be "good news" on efforts to restart peace talks with Iran as early as Friday, raising fresh hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough after a tense pause in hostilities. His remarks came as reports suggested a second round of negotiations could resume within the next few days, even as Iran publicly pushed back against claims that a new round of talks had already been agreed.

US President Donald Trump hinted at potential good news regarding Iran peace talks by Friday and extended a ceasefire, citing Pakistan's request and Iran's divisions, although Iran denies agreeing to negotiate on that date.

Trump Says Positive Update May Come Soon

Speaking to The New York Post, Trump hinted that progress could be close when asked about the possibility of renewed diplomacy with Tehran. The publication reported on Wednesday that peace talks could resume within the next "36 to 72" hours.

"It's possible! President DJT," Trump told The Post.

His comment has added to speculation that Washington may be preparing for another round of engagement with Iran after days of uncertainty over whether the ceasefire window would hold.

Iran Rejects Claim That Friday Talks Are Confirmed

Despite Trump's optimistic tone, Iran has made it clear that no official decision has yet been announced on extending the ceasefire or returning to negotiations by Friday.

In a post on X, Tasnim News, an agency associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, dismissed the claim outright and said, "Trump lied again. Iran currently has no decision to negotiate on Friday".

The sharp response underlines the continuing distrust between both sides, even as diplomatic channels appear to remain open behind the scenes.

US Extends Ceasefire As Tehran Misses Deadline

Trump's remarks came after he moved to extend the US ceasefire with Iran, giving more time for diplomacy even after Tehran's deadline to respond expired without any major incident.

The extension marked a notable shift in Washington's approach. It is the first time the US has not imposed a fresh deadline on Iran's next move, suggesting the White House may be willing to allow more room for backchannel efforts before deciding on further action.

At the same time, Trump indicated that military pressure remains in place, with US forces still under orders to maintain readiness.

Trump Credits Pakistan For Change In Strategy

In a social media post, Trump said the decision to delay any further military action was influenced by outreach from Pakistan's top leadership and by internal divisions within Iran's government.

"Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal," Trump wrote on social media.

He added, "I have...directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their (Iran's) proposal is submitted."
