Donald Trump Safe After Gunshots Reported Near His Florida Estate

Donald Trump was unharmed after gunfire was reported near him on Sunday afternoon in Florida, according to his campaign and the Secret Service. It remains unclear if the shots were aimed at the Republican presidential nominee. The US Secret Service confirmed it is investigating the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 pm. "The former president is safe," stated the Secret Service.

Trump Safe After Florida Gunshots

Approximately two months ago, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his ear. This weekend, Trump returned to Florida after a West Coast trip that included a Friday night rally in Las Vegas and a fundraiser in Utah. The campaign has not provided further details about the recent incident.

Increased Security Measures

Since the July assassination attempt, Trump's security has been significantly increased. When he stays at Trump Tower in New York, dump trucks form a barrier outside the building. At outdoor rallies, he now speaks from behind bulletproof glass. A message sent to campaign officials seeking information on the security status and location of Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump's running mate, was not immediately returned.

No injuries were reported in the latest incident, according to a spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in Florida. A law enforcement official, who requested anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, mentioned that authorities are trying to determine whether the shots were fired near Trump's West Palm Beach golf course or on its grounds.

Eyewitness Account

Max Egusquiza of Palm Beach described the emergency response outside Trump's West Palm Beach golf course. "From what I saw, five black unmarked SUVs blocked in a grey Mercedes in front of the golf course. There were about 20 or more cop cars flying from nearby streets," he said.

Trump often spends his mornings playing golf before having lunch at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, one of three clubs he owns in Florida. The campaign did not immediately provide additional details regarding the incident or any potential threats.

The law enforcement official who spoke anonymously was not authorised to speak publicly and shared information with The Associated Press under condition of anonymity. The investigation continues as officials work to understand the circumstances surrounding the reported gunfire.

Trump's return to Florida followed a busy schedule on the West Coast, including events in Las Vegas and Utah. Despite heightened security measures, incidents like these highlight ongoing concerns for his safety during public appearances.

The Secret Service's investigation aims to clarify whether there was any direct threat to Trump or if it was an unrelated event near his location. As more information becomes available, updates will be provided by relevant authorities.
