‘Israel Won’t Strike Qatar Again,’ Trump Says, Claims Netanyahu Kept Him In Dark

US President Donald Trump reaffirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not inform him in advance about Israel's strike in Qatar last week, which targeted senior Hamas leaders gathered in Doha for ceasefire talks.

Trump's remarks came in response to an Axios report claiming that Netanyahu had briefed him shortly before the strike. However, the Trump administration clarified that the United States was only notified once the missiles had already been launched, leaving the president with no chance to object.

Axios had earlier cited Israeli officials as saying the Trump administration was alerted before the operation, though even in that version, the window to stop the attack was described as extremely narrow.

On Tuesday, Israel carried out a strike on a building in Doha where Hamas political leadership was meeting, in an effort to assassinate top figures of the group. The move sharply escalated tensions in the Middle East and drew widespread condemnation across the region and internationally, with fears of further destabilization in an already volatile environment.

Trump, maintaining his distance from the decision, reiterated that he had no role in authorizing the attack on Qatar. Asked on Monday if Netanyahu had given him prior warning about the strike, Trump replied, "No, no, they didn't," according to Reuters.

Following the Axios report, Netanyahu's office released a statement insisting that the operation in Qatar was "wholly independent" and carried out without American involvement. Trump later added that Israel would not carry out another strike on Qatar, Al Jazeera reported.

Meanwhile, in a post on Truth Social, Trump issued a stern warning to Hamas after reports suggested the group had moved hostages above ground to serve as human shields against Israel's ground operations. "I hope the Leaders of Hamas know what they're getting into if they do such a thing," the president wrote.
