Trump Names 27-Year-Old Karoline Leavitt As White House Press Secretary. Who Is She?
House press secretary in his administration. At just 27 years old, Leavitt will become the youngest person ever to hold this role, surpassing Ronald Ziegler, who was 29 when he served under President Richard Nixon in 1969.
Currently a spokesperson for Trump's transition team, Leavitt has garnered recognition for her staunch defence of Trump in the media.

Trump expressed his confidence in her abilities, stating: "Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary."
He added: "Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we Make America Great Again."
A Rising Star in Politics
A native of New Hampshire, Leavitt's political journey began as a summer intern in the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence before her final year at university. After graduating, she joined the White House Press Office as an assistant press secretary under Kayleigh McEnany during Trump's first term.
Leavitt also served as communications director for New York Representative Elise Stefanik, who has been nominated by Trump to serve as the US ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik praised Leavitt's contributions, describing them as impactful.
In 2022, Leavitt ran for Congress in New Hampshire's First District. While she won the Republican primary, she was ultimately defeated by Democrat Chris Pappas. This experience strengthened her public speaking and media expertise, preparing her for her latest appointment.
Leavitt maintained her connection to Trump's team as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, before rejoining Trump's 2024 campaign as a prominent representative.
The Role Ahead
The White House press secretary traditionally holds daily press briefings and acts as the administration's primary public spokesperson. However, during Trump's first term (2017-2021), he often bypassed this tradition, relying instead on rallies, social media, and personal press interactions to communicate directly with the public.
Trump's first term saw four different press secretaries, each with varying approaches. Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders frequently sparred with journalists, Stephanie Grisham held no briefings during her tenure, and Kayleigh McEnany engaged in confrontational exchanges with the media, particularly during the pandemic.
Experts predict Leavitt will face the challenge of balancing direct communication with the public and maintaining journalistic credibility as she represents Trump's administration.
