Trump Labels Netanyahu Case A ‘Witch Hunt,’ Blasts Israeli Prosecutors

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again come to the defense of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, denouncing the ongoing corruption trial against him as a politically motivated "witch hunt." Taking to Truth Social, Trump called for the immediate cancellation of the trial or for Netanyahu to be pardoned outright. He criticized Israeli prosecutors, warning that the legal proceedings are detracting from vital negotiations involving Hamas and Iran.

Trump described Netanyahu as a "war hero" and a "remarkable hero," praising his close coordination with the United States in countering Iran's nuclear threat. He argued that prosecuting a leader of Netanyahu's stature over what he termed as minor issues-like "cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc."-was both absurd and harmful to Israel's diplomatic standing and regional security efforts. Drawing comparisons to his own legal troubles, Trump labeled both cases as politically driven "witch hunts."

He further warned that the trial poses a risk to ongoing sensitive negotiations, including those related to hostages and ceasefires. "This travesty of 'Justice' will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations," Trump wrote. "In other words, it is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu." Emphasizing America's long-standing support for Israel, he argued that Netanyahu should be left to focus on leading the country, not fighting legal battles.

Netanyahu has been facing trial since 2020 on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases. He has denied all allegations. While Israeli President Isaac Herzog holds the constitutional authority to issue a pardon, he has stated that the option is not currently being considered and that no formal request has been submitted.

Trump's remarks have stirred backlash from Israeli opposition leaders, who accuse him of meddling in Israel's internal judicial affairs and undermining the independence of its legal system.
