Trump Rules Out Further Debates With Harris Amidst Her $47M Fundraising Spike
Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he would not participate in another presidential debate against Kamala Harris. This decision came after Harris's campaign reported a significant fundraising boost following their recent debate. Trump, the Republican nominee, declared on Truth Social, "THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!" This statement followed his debates with Harris and President Joe Biden earlier this year.

Harris's campaign revealed that they had raised $47 million from nearly 600,000 donors within 24 hours of the debate. Campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon stated, "This historic, 24-hour haul reflects a strong and growing coalition of Americans united behind Vice President Harris's candidacy that knows the stakes this November, and are doing their part to defeat Donald Trump this November."
Trump's Debate Stance
Trump suggested that a "prizefighter who loses a bout is always the one to call for a rematch." The former president had previously expressed uncertainty about debating Harris again, saying, "I just don't know," when asked about another debate. Despite some Republicans, including Senator John Thune, urging him to reconsider, Trump's announcement indicates that Tuesday's debate might be the only one before the November election.
The debate between Trump and Harris attracted over 67 million viewers. During a rally in North Carolina, Harris emphasized the importance of another debate, stating that she and Trump "owe it to voters" to meet again. The vice president managed to control the tone of the debate, prompting Trump into responses filled with exaggerations and inaccuracies.
Previous Debates and Campaign Dynamics
The Tuesday debate marked the first encounter between Trump and Harris. It followed Trump's earlier debate with Biden in June. Biden's performance in that debate led him to withdraw from his reelection bid and endorse Harris as his replacement on the ticket. Trump's reluctance to debate Harris was evident earlier in the campaign when he questioned whether he would face her at all.
Instead of an event with Harris earlier this month, Trump appeared on Fox News for a solo town hall with Sean Hannity. Fox News has extended invitations to both campaigns for an October debate. However, Trump's recent declaration casts doubt on whether another face-off will occur.
The decision not to engage in further debates could impact voter perceptions as they prepare for the upcoming election. The dynamics between the candidates continue to evolve as each campaign strategizes its next moves leading up to November.
The unfolding events highlight the intense political climate and the high stakes involved in this election cycle. Both campaigns are actively engaging their supporters and seeking to sway undecided voters as Election Day approaches.
