Trump Indicates Possible Pardon for New York Mayor Eric Adams Facing Federal Charges
Donald Trump, the US President-elect, addressed a wide range of topics during a news conference on Monday. He expressed willingness to consider pardoning New York Mayor Eric Adams, who is currently facing federal fraud and corruption charges. Trump also urged the Biden administration to halt the sale of unused border wall materials purchased during his previous term.

Adams is accused of accepting luxury travel perks worth $100,000 and illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals, including a Turkish official. Several members of his administration are also under investigation. Trump admitted he was not fully aware of the charges against Adams but stated he would consider a pardon.
Border Wall Controversy
Trump criticised the Biden administration for selling unused border wall sections. He mentioned discussing potential legal action with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and other officials. Trump argued that spending more money on the wall was almost criminal, as Congress had mandated the disposal of unused sections through the National Defense Authorization Act.
The act allows for selling or donating these materials to states along the southern border, provided they refurbish existing barriers rather than build new ones. Congress also instructed the Pentagon to account for storage costs while the materials remain unused.
Transition and Workforce Policies
Despite describing the transition between administrations as friendly, Trump criticised efforts to allow some federal employees to continue remote work. He warned that government workers who do not return to office under his leadership would face dismissal.
During his appearance, Trump was joined by SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son, who announced a $100 billion investment in US projects over four years. This announcement marked a significant achievement for Trump, who has been promoting his policies and negotiating deals since winning the election.
Investment Promises
Trump had previously posted on Truth Social that investments of $1 billion in the US would receive expedited approvals and permits, including environmental ones. "GET READY TO ROCK!!!" he wrote enthusiastically. Although some deals have not met expectations, this announcement is seen as a major success for Trump.
Trump claimed he accomplished more during his transition period than his predecessor did in four years. "There's a whole light over the entire world," he remarked on Monday. "There's a light shining over the world."
