Trump Criticises Federal Disaster Response as Hurricane Milton Affects Southeast
Donald Trump criticised the federal response to recent natural disasters in the Southeast, aiming to gain political leverage from the tropical weather. Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club after rallies in Pennsylvania, he expressed dissatisfaction with the federal efforts, particularly in North Carolina. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is actively engaging with disaster response efforts while attending events in Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Trump conveyed a message to those affected by Hurricanes Milton and Helene, praising Republican governors in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. However, he criticised the federal response in North Carolina, claiming it was inadequate. "They've let those people suffer unjustly," Trump stated, continuing his criticism of President Joe Biden's administration.
Political Campaign Strategies Amidst Disasters
Despite the hurricanes, both Trump and Harris are strategically using their travel plans to garner support from key voting blocs. Trump's focus is on gaining votes in Hispanic-dominated areas of Pennsylvania, such as Reading. Harris is concentrating her efforts out west to boost support among Hispanic voters, especially men, through initiatives like "Hombres con Harris."
Harris's campaign has been actively engaging Hispanic voters through various events. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined Arizona Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego and actor Jaime Camil at an "Hombres" event in Phoenix. Similar gatherings have been organised across Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania to connect with Latino communities.
Efforts to Engage Hispanic Voters
The Harris campaign is also reaching out to Hispanic voters who might not be closely following the election. Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris's campaign manager, attended a boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas. The campaign also held events at churches to celebrate Mexican Independence Day in September.
Additionally, the campaign announced a $3 million investment in Spanish-language radio ads and plans to focus on sports events like baseball games and boxing matches. These efforts aim to connect with Hispanic voters through culturally relevant channels.
Obama Joins Harris on Campaign Trail
Former President Barack Obama is set to join Harris on the campaign trail, starting with a rally in Pittsburgh. This marks Obama's first appearance supporting Harris since Biden endorsed her candidacy. Obama will make several campaign stops on behalf of Harris as part of a broader effort by key Democrats to bolster her campaign.
Biden recently campaigned in suburban Philadelphia but has only made one joint appearance with Harris since endorsing her. Obama played a significant role behind the scenes in encouraging Biden to step down from the race. Obama and Harris have maintained a friendship for two decades since his Senate run in Illinois.
Biden postponed his trip to Germany and Angola due to Hurricane Milton's aftermath. He described Milton as "the storm of the century" and met with top officials alongside Harris in the Situation Room to discuss disaster response strategies.
