Trump, Clinton hope to consolidate lead over rivals
Washington, Mar 5: Billionaire real estate magnet Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hope to extend their lead over their presidential rivals as the next phase of primaries conclude today.
While Trump is leading the four-person Republican primary race, Clinton is ahead of her only Democratic primary rival Senator Bernie Sanders.
The three other Republican presidential aspirants are Senators Ted Cruz from Texas and Marco Rubio from Florida, and John Kasich, the Ohio Governor.
The Republican presidential primaries are scheduled today in the States of Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Maine. The Democratic primary is scheduled to be held in Kansas, Louisiana, and Nebraska.
As per RealClearPolitics, which tracks all major national polls, Trump and Clinton are leading their respective primary races at the national level.
Latest polls indicate that Trump is likely to win in all the four states, while Clinton is leading in Louisiana and Nebraska, while Sanders in Kansas. Sanders is also leading in the Maine primaries scheduled for tomorrow.
Today's primaries would be the first test for Trump after Mitt Romney – the 2012 Republican presidential nominee – came out against him and urged people not to vote him.
