Trump Cabinet: Harmeet Dhillon Named Assistant Attorney General For Civil Rights
US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Indian-American attorney Harmeet K Dhillon as the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice.
A prominent election lawyer and staunch advocate for civil liberties, Dhillon is set to take on one of the most critical roles in the Trump 2.0 administration, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Trump Praises Dhillon's Dedication to Civil Rights
Announcing the nomination on Truth Social, Trump lauded Dhillon for her unwavering commitment to defending constitutional rights and tackling issues such as Big Tech censorship and workplace discrimination.
"Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished civil liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring free speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying together during COVID, and suing corporations that implement woke policies discriminating against their workers," Trump said.
A Seasoned Advocate for Election Integrity
Renowned as one of the top election lawyers in the United States, Dhillon has built a reputation for her work in safeguarding election integrity. "Harmeet fights to ensure that all, and only, legal votes are counted," Trump noted, adding that her expertise in election law has made her a key figure in protecting democratic processes, as per media reports.
A Trailblazing Legal Career
A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School, Dhillon clerked at the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals before embarking on her distinguished legal career. She is also an active member of the Sikh religious community, making her a significant representative of Indian-American and minority voices in the Trump administration.
Indian-Americans in Trump 2.0 Cabinet
Dhillon is the fourth person of Indian origin to join Trump's cabinet, following Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard, and Vivek Ramaswamy. While Patel and Ramaswamy have strong Gujarati roots, Gabbard has a deep connection to Hindu philosophy, particularly the Hare Krishna tradition, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Trump emphasized Dhillon's ability to uphold justice impartially:
"In her new role at the DOJ, Harmeet will be a tireless defender of our Constitutional Rights and enforce Civil Rights and Election Laws FAIRLY and FIRMLY."
Conclusion
Dhillon's appointment is a testament to the growing influence of Indian-Americans in U.S. governance. As a seasoned legal professional and staunch advocate for civil liberties, her nomination underscores Trump's intent to prioritize election integrity and constitutional rights during his second term.
