Toronto: 1 Dead, 5 Injured In Lawrence Heights Shooting

A person has been declared dead and five others have sustained injuries following a shooting in Toronto's Lawrence Heights area, according to local media reports citing officials on Wednesday.

Toronto Police and emergency medical services responded to reports of gunfire near Flemington and Zachary Roads, close to Ranee Avenue and Allen Road, shortly after 8.30 pm on Tuesday.

One person was declared dead at the scene, while five others were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

In a post on X, Toronto Police stated: "1 male confirmed deceased. 5 people with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds transported to hospital."

Authorities have yet to release any details regarding potential suspects. A command post has been set up near Ranee Avenue and Flemington Road as part of the ongoing investigation.

Reacting to the incident, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the violence.

She wrote on X: "Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening." She also mentioned that her office was in touch with both Toronto Police and Deputy Mayor Mike Colle.

"I want to thank the first responders - Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic Services - for your work on a very busy and challenging scene," Chow said, adding that the police were working to provide an update soon.
