Top Iranian Cleric Declares Fatwa Against Donald Trump, Netanyahu

Just days after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, a senior Iranian cleric has issued a fatwa declaring Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as 'Enemies of God'. The fatwa, a religious decree in Islam, was issued by Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, a prominent Shia scholar in Iran.

Why the Fatwa Was Issued

According to Mehr News Agency, Shirazi was responding to a group's question about alleged threats made by Trump and Netanyahu against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"Any person or regime that threatens the Leader or Marja (May God forbid) is considered an enemy of God," said Shirazi in his fatwa.

In Shia Islam, a Marja is a high-ranking cleric with authority to issue rulings on Islamic law.

'Haram to Support the Enemy': Fatwa Warns Muslim States
The fatwa further declares it "haram" (forbidden) for any Muslim individual or Islamic nation to support such individuals:

"It is necessary for all Muslims around the world to make these enemies regret their words and mistakes," Shirazi stated.

While fatwas are not legally binding, they are highly influential in countries that follow Sharia-based legal systems and can shape public opinion across Islamic communities.

Background: Trump and Netanyahu's Alleged Threats

The fatwa follows controversial remarks made during the 12-day Israel-Iran conflict. During this period:

Trump claimed he "saved Khamenei from an ugly and ignominious death" and knew where he was hiding.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that if Khamenei had been found, "we would have taken him out."

Netanyahu also did not rule out targeting the Supreme Leader, stating Israel was doing "what we need to do."

Following these threats, Khamenei disappeared from public view after Israeli airstrikes began on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear sites and leading to the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian commanders and scientists.

The Israel-Iran conflict ended on June 24 after Trump claimed he brokered a ceasefire between the two countries. On Truth Social, he posted:

"CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE."
